The first School of Public Health on the West Coast was founded in 1943 at the University of California, Berkeley.

Dean’s Message

The School of Public Health is pleased to offer the On-Campus/Online Professional M.P.H. Degree Program—the first UC Berkeley online graduate degree program. In California and the United States, there is an acute shortage of trained public health professionals. Studies project the necessity for 250,000 more public health professionals by 2020 in order to meet the population’s public health needs.

The On-Campus/Online Professional M.P.H. Degree Program is designed to meet those needs and help you advance your career. With this program, you experience the same quality and rigor as the School’s nationally acclaimed on-campus M.P.H. program, with the added advantage of a flexible format that allows you to work while pursuing your degree. The online learning experience uses leading-edge educational technology to optimize your interaction and collaboration with instructors and peers.

We invite you to develop your expertise in public health and enhance your leadership skills to help ensure a healthier and safer world for everyone.

Stephen M. Shortell, Ph.D., M.P.H., M.B.A.
Dean and Blue Cross of California Distinguished Professor of Health Policy and Management

The M.P.H. degree programs at UC Berkeley are accredited by the Council on Education in Public Health (CEPH), the national body responsible for accrediting public health degree programs across the nation. Graduates of the On-Campus/Online Professional M.P.H. Degree Program receive the same M.P.H. degree that is granted to graduates in the on-campus M.P.H. programs. The On-Campus/Online Professional M.P.H. Degree Program is approved by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
